Stephanie Aspen PhD

She/Her

Online and in-person in Norwich UK

I am a neurodivergent integrative therapist, which means I work with knowledge and models drawn from different schools of therapy: in my case, I take a person-centred approach which I combine with creative methods (working with images, story and dreams, as the client prefers) but I tend to avoid behaviourist approaches such as CBT. I have a good working-knowledge of creative approaches and hold PhDs in poetry and counselling studies, with a focus on the relationship between creative writing and the mind (I am the author of Poetry and Therapy: why words help, published by PCCS Books in 2025). My work is anti-oppressive which means that I am also interested in the ways in which the structure of society (e.g. work and other societal expectations) have a negative impact on neurodivergent people and the ways in which they see themselves.

Who I work with

I work with neurodivergent adults, predominantly autistic and/or ADHD, with or without a formal diagnosis. I also frequently work with people who suspect they may be neurodivergent and want to explore this aspect of their experience. I also work as a clinical supervisor specialising in supporting neurodivergent therapists or therapists working with neurodivergent clients.

Qualifications & Professional Background

I hold a BSc in integrative psychotherapeutic counselling (Middlesex, 2010) and a PhD in counselling studies (UEA, 2020). I have additional trainings in person-centred creative arts practice (APCCA, 2022) and coaching (EMCC, 2017) and coaching supervision (BPS prim. cert, 2018), and trauma-informed practice. I work in private practice and also as an educator and consultant for organisations looking to become more neuro-affirming. I am currently undertaking the Diploma in clinical supervision with the Awareness Centre (2025). I am a professional accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and insured with Towergate Insurance.
