Who I work with
I work a lot with adults who are either late diagnosed autistic (or think they might be and are exploring this), and need support and validation towards building coping skills for issues including anxiety, burnout, and navigating sensory sensitivities. I also support adults build understanding of their needs, strengths and differences in the context of being autistic - this includes discovering sensory joy, exploring masking, and building authentic relationships. I also work with adults who have been diagnosed autistic since childhood.
About Me and How I Work
I am a person-centred "humanistic and integrative" counsellor. This means that I work in a congruent way with empathy, compassion, and congruence, guided by and checking in with you as to what you feel comfortable sharing, and starting with establishing a relationship with you in which you feel safe, heard, and completely accepted by me. The integrative part means I may suggest we explore mindfulness, or look at your present in the context of your past experiences, or do some creative work (this could mean drawing, colouring, even knitting if that's your thing!). I would never force you out of your comfort zone though, and will regularly check in with you as to how things are going, and how you are feeling - and helping you explore this too if you don't find it easy to work out how you feel. I may also help you work out what adjustments you need in every day life, what your sensory profile is, how to manage overwhelm, and what you need to feel safe in relationships.
