Who I work with
I work with neurodivergent adults, particularly those who are AuDHD or exploring identity after a late diagnosis of autism or ADHD. Many of my clients come to therapy navigating masking, burnout, sensory overwhelm, relationship patterns, or the pressure to “keep up” in a world not designed for them. I offer online sessions for UK-based clients, with a gentle, collaborative approach that centres your pace, your voice, and your way of being.
About Me and How I Work
I’m Laura Wates (she/her), a UK based psychotherapist working with neurodivergent adults, including those with ADHD, autism and AuDHD. As a neurodivergent therapist, I bring both professional and lived experience to my work.
My approach is gentle, collaborative and grounded. I offer a space where you can move at your own pace, explore identity, unmasking, burnout, and relationships without pressure or judgement.
I work online with clients across the UK, using relational, psychodynamic and somatic approaches, always shaped around your needs. Therapy with me is about making space for who you are and how you experience the world.
Qualifications & Professional Background
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB), where I trained across a range of approaches including CBT, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Transpersonal modalities. I also hold a Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in ADHD, during which I was diagnosed myself — a turning point that now shapes my work in a deeply personal way. Alongside this, I have ITEC Diplomas in Holistic Therapy and additional qualifications in breathwork and meditation. My ongoing CPD includes somatic and nervous system-informed approaches, and I regularly engage in personal therapy, individual and group supervision (including with neurodivergent supervisors). I’m an accredited and insured member of both the NCPS (Accred) and the BACP. Before working in private practice, I worked in broadcasting, charities and low-cost therapy services. My practice is integrative and neurodivergent-affirming, grounded in relational, humanistic, psychodynamic, body-focused and attachment-based frameworks.
Next Steps
If you’re considering starting therapy, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to help us get a sense of whether working together feels right. It’s a chance for you to ask any questions and share a little about what you’re looking for.
I currently offer online sessions to adults across the UK and abroad. I usually reply to enquiries within 2–3 working days, and I’ll let you know about current availability or waiting times when you get in touch.
