Dr Astrid Coxon

Any Pronouns

Online, via telephone, or in person in East Suffolk

I am a person-centred therapist with particular interest in exploring existential themes, identity, and value-focused work. I work collaboratively, supporting people to explore what might work for them. Although many of the people I work with choose to have regular weekly sessions, I offer flexibility in session delivery - whether that means fortnightly or monthly sessions, or something more ad hoc. I offer online sessions via Zoom, telephone-based therapy, and in-person sessions from my practice on the Suffolk coast. I also do outdoor/walking sessions (which can be discussed at an initial practice-based session)

Who I work with

Whilst I work with all neurotypes, I have extensive experience working with clients who have identified as or been diagnosed as Autistic and/or ADHD in their adult life. Exploring past experiences and current life circumstances through this new neurodivergent lens with a professional in a confidential, non-judgemental space can help bring a new perspective and understanding on how to live in a way more aligned with your values and needs.

I also work with a lot of people in academia. I have a PhD, and outside of my private counselling practice, I work as a teaching fellow in higher education and qualitative psychology researcher. Whilst I cannot offer academic advice, I do understand the unique challenges faced studying and working in academia.

Qualifications & Professional Background

I completed my training as a person-centred therapist at the Colchester Institute in Essex in 2021. I also have a PhD from Norwich Medical School (University of East Anglia), Master's degrees in psychology and health psychology, and a BA in philosophy. I am an accredited sight loss counsellor with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), and I undertake regular CPD training.

Before completing my person-centred counselling training, I worked for the NHS, first in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and then a Community Cancer Support Team in Suffolk.

I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I am fully insured with Holistic.
