Danielle Mills
She/Her
I offer in-person sessions in Derbyshire (with access needs in mind), as well as online therapy across the UK. Walk-and-talk, animal-supported, and nature-based sessions are also available for those who find the outdoors soothing or regulating.
Who I work with
I work with autistic people of all ages, whether you're late-diagnosed, self-identified, or just starting to explore what neurodivergence means for you. A lot of people come to therapy with me feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or a bit lost after years of trying to fit into systems that haven’t really worked for them.
I also support people with other forms of neurodivergence, including ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and those living with multiplicity. However your brain works, you’re welcome here — no formal diagnosis needed.
People often come to me for support with:
- Understanding themselves after a diagnosis (or while exploring)
- Masking, burnout and sensory overload
- Trauma, anxiety, and emotional ups and downs
- Relationships, boundaries and communication
- Exploring gender, sexuality, or identity
- School, college or workplace stress
- Navigating chronic illness, disability, and access needs
- Eating difficulties
- Grief and loss
I offer sessions online across the UK, and in person in Derbyshire. You can also choose walk-and-talk, outdoor sessions, or equine-facilitated therapy if you feel more at ease outside or around animals.
About Me and How I Work
Hi, I’m Danielle (she/her). I’m a late-diagnosed autistic therapist with ADHD and chronic illness, and I bring a lot of lived experience to my work. I know what it’s like to feel out of place or to have to explain parts of yourself over and over, and how powerful it can be to find a space where you don’t have to do that.
My approach to therapy is gentle, flexible, and led by what works for you. I draw on a mix of relational, trauma-informed and integrative ways of working, but we’ll shape the sessions around your pace, needs, and comfort. That might mean time to process in silence, working through things creatively, or having more structure, we’ll figure that out together.
You’re welcome exactly as you are. I aim to make therapy a space that’s affirming and inclusive. I actively work to be anti-ableist, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and welcoming to all, challenging discrimination in all its forms.
Qualifications & Professional Background
I’m trained to Masters level in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy — which basically means I don’t stick to just one way of working. I adapt my approach to suit you and what you need, rather than expecting you to fit the therapy.
I’m also trained as an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapist and I take a lot of care to make sure the work I offer is safe, ethical, and grounded in good practice.
I’m trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) for both children and adults, which can be particularly helpful for processing trauma, phobias, and overwhelming experiences in a gentle, structured way.
I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and fully insured.
Over the years, I’ve added lots of further training to support my work, including:
- Trauma-informed ways of working
- Sensory processing and regulation
- Neurodivergence and mental health
- Creative and animal supported therapies
- Working with grief, self-injury, and gender identity
- Working with parts and multiplicity
Alongside my therapy work, I’m also a Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I run Pony Partnerships CIC, a not-for-profit therapy organisation in Derbyshire. We specialise in outdoor, nature-based, and animal-assisted therapy — especially for neurodivergent clients. I also offer supervision and can support other therapists who are setting up or working within not-for-profits.
