Claire Law

She/Her

In person: Preston, Lancashire. Online (via MS Teams) for clients based in UK

I work with autistic and allistic adults looking for both insight and change. I enjoy working with people who are navigating loss, grief, estrangement and rejection. Having experienced burnout for myself, I am also well placed to support people to navigate autistic burnout and the impact of masking upon them. I see people face-to-face from my therapy space in Preston and work online. I’m a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and use the words therapy and counselling to describe the helping support I offer to my clients. My counselling approach draws on techniques from different types of therapy to tailor the counselling to fit a person's individual needs, wants and preferences. I’m very comfortable working with how the past impacts the present, as well as focusing on a person's here-and-now experience of life. My integrative approach is well suited for working with grief, anxiety, trauma and burnout.

Qualifications & Professional Background

I began training as a counsellor in 2012. Since then, I’ve completed a post-grad qualification in Psychotherapy, as well as achieving BACP Accredited Counsellor status.
I have experience of counselling and psychotherapy in a range of settings and have developed interests in working with people facing anxiety and grief and loss in their many forms, including estrangement. I also specialize in working with neurodivergent people, exploring themes including Autistic/ADHD burnout and the impact of masking. Often my work with clients leads us into exploring the impact of childhood trauma.
I’m currently employed part-time as a counsellor at a local university to complement my private work with clients.
I previously worked as a Religious Studies High School teacher for more than 16-years, so I am very comfortable exploring issues connected with spirituality, the impact of being involved in religious communities and concerns around meaning and purpose in life that clients sometimes have.
My professional background also includes working with adults with learning disabilities and within the third sector supporting unpaid carers.

Next Steps

I offer a simple process for people considering booking a counselling session:
1. Contact me via my website, to let me know you're interested in counselling: https://www.freetobecounselling.org/

2. We can then arrange a free, no-pressure 20-mins phone or video call consultation. My website allows you to book in directly for this: https://www.freetobecounselling.org/contact In this, I'll explain some of the practicalities, and briefly chat through what you are looking for from counselling. You can ask any questions you have.

3. I will email you any follow-up information we agreed, such as specific details of location (which is close to the Guild Wheel in Ashton, Preston, PR4, or online via MS Teams). Some people find it helpful to see photos of the room I use before the session, and/or to have a sense of what a first session typically involves. I am happy to accommodate these needs to help make therapy accessible.

4. You can decide whether you'd like to book an initial counselling session. In this first session, we'll collaborate so we're both clear on what you want to gain from therapy. Most people opt to then meet weekly at the same time. You're free to decide how many sessions feel right for you.

Please note - I currently have limited availability for new clients. This situation changes from week-to-week. I am happy to chat through current availability or anticipated future availability, or whether you would like to be added to a waitlist.

£60 per hour's session.
