Sabine Baeyens

Online Antwerp Belgium

I also work with autistic children who struggle with emotional regulation, sleep, sensory overwhelm, or persistent tension in the body.
This includes children with developmental delays, where traditional talk-based approaches are not accessible or effective.

All sessions are offered online, with parents or caregivers actively involved when working with children.

Sabine Baeyens

About Me and How I Work

I am an autistic therapist specialising in sensory nervous system support and emotional regulation.
My work is based on the understanding that emotional distress in autism often originates in unresolved sensory load and physiological stress, rather than thoughts, behaviour, or motivation.

I work bottom-up, supporting the body first so that regulation can emerge naturally.
This is especially important for children and individuals with developmental delays, where verbal processing is limited or unreliable.

Sessions are calm, structured, and collaborative.
With adults, we focus on bodily signals, pacing, and restoring internal safety.
With children, sessions are adapted to their developmental level and always involve the caregiver as a co-regulator.

I do not use compliance-based techniques, exposure, or behaviour-focused interventions.
The aim is not control, but capacity: helping the nervous system do what it was meant to do.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

I am trained in body-based and sensory-focused therapeutic approaches, with a clinical focus on emotional regulation in autistic adults and children.

My professional background includes:
• Advanced training in sensory nervous system regulation
• Formal training in neuro-emotional processing and trauma release, with a focus on pre-verbal and non-cognitive emotional patterns
• Extensive clinical experience working with autistic children, including children with developmental delays
• Experience as a research assistant, supporting research-informed practice in the field of sensory processing and autism
• Ongoing professional development in neurophysiology, sensory integration, and embodied therapeutic work
