online and in person in Brighton&Hove

I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists who are neurodivergent themselves or who work with neurodivergent individuals (or both!). While I am very comfortable working with experienced therapists & counsellors, I am passionate about working with counsellors and therapists who are either in training or those who are still finding their feet and their own voice in this profession. I offer a collaborative relationship which is encouraging and affirming.

Who I Work With

I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists who are neurodivergent themselves or who work with neurodivergent individuals (or both!). While I am very comfortable working with experienced therapists & counsellors, I am passionate about working with counsellors and therapists who are either in training or those who are still finding their feet and their own voice in this profession. I offer a collaborative relationship which is encouraging and affirming.

About Me and How I Work

As a gay autistic man, I know how important it is to be met with curiosity, affirmation and acceptance and not be judged or reprimanded for who we are and how we show up in the world. My supervision practice is underpinned by the values of creativity and appropriate spontaneity. I am relational in approach and integrate psychodynamic, existential, trauma-informed and body-based perspectives into the way I work. I take particular interests in trauma & abuse, grief and working at depth. I am climate- and collapse-aware and am a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance.

Professional Experience and Qualifications

I'm a qualified and experienced BACP-registered and NCPS-accredited psychotherapist with 25+ years experience. My initial Diploma in Counselling was person-centred. Over the years, I have continued to develop myself and train in other approaches, which I weave into the work, as appropriate to each individual. I am a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner. I completed my Diploma in Creative Approaches to Supervision from the London Centre for Psychodrama in 2022. I am dedicated to continued learning and I regularly read and attend trainings which enhance and deepen my practice. While not directly related to the psychotherapy field, I completed a Permaculture Design Course in 2024, which continues to offer many insights into life, being and becoming. As per my professional requirements, I attend monthly supervision, which I thoroughly enjoy. Throughout my career, I have also attended hundreds of hours of personal therapy, which I continue to attend and derive enormous benefit. I also engage in daily practices which I find essential cornerstones of support to my body, mind, spirit & soul.

Next Steps

Please take a look at my website https://www.q-shift.com or contact me directly at john@q-shift.com if you'd like to arrange a no-cost, no-obligation 15 minute chat. If that feels OK, we can take it from there and set up a first supervision session. I work very comfortably online with people across the UK, as well as in person, a stone's throw from the seafront in Hove.

Please look at my website https://www.q-shift.com for up to date fee information. For trainee counsellors and psychotherapists, I offer reduced rates for the period that you are in training.
